AKA – Chic decor on a budget
Hey friends! How is everybody? I hope you are all having a great summer! I can’t believe how fast it is going by. Fall will be here before we know it! I know, sad face. But I do have something to cheer you up — a cute, quick and inexpensive DIY.
This is what I like to call chic decor on a budget. No on has to know that this was made with stuff from the dollar store! The best part is, you can’t even tell! So without further ado, I present to you…
DIY Bathroom Canisters
Materials
- Glass container with lid
- Any kind of decorative piece (I chose decorative curtain clips from the dollar store)
- E6000 (aka miracle glue)
- Spray paint in a color of your choosing
So I decided to make two canisters, because I needed a spot to store my Q-tips and cotton pads. On a little side note, speaking of Q-tips. I made the mistake of buying no name Q-tips… I will never do that again! It was like shoving a hard stick in my ear. They certainly don’t spare any expense when they are putting the cotton at the end of those things… not.
Anyways, enough about that, let’s get back to the project. I found these cool curtain clips at the dollar store and picked them up. I knew I would find a use for them eventually. Feel free to get really creative with this part and see what you can come up with to use. You could use fancy drawer pulls, knobs or even small plastic kid toys. The possibilities are endless.
Because they were from the dollar store and so cheap, the curtain clip portions broke right off when I pulled them…perfect!
I took a bit of E6000 and applied it to the flat bottom of my “new” flower embellishments that were no longer curtain clips.
Next, I applied some E6000 to the top of my canister lids.
Wait two minutes before sticking the flower or embellishment to the lid.
E6000 gives you the strongest hold if you wait 12 hours for the glue to fully set. So I waited. Plus I was tired, so I just went to bed.
The next day I was ready to continue and so were my lids. This is the spray paint that I used.
The first one is just a flat white and the second is called Ocean Mist.
I spray painted the lids. The trick is always nice light and even coats. It is better to do multiple thin coats than one thick heavy coat with runs and drips. Patience is key to perfect spray painting.
Once the lids were dry, I put them back on the canisters. That’s it!
Pretty simple, right?
Here is a close up of the lids.
I love my new bathroom canisters and I am already brainstorming to see what other canisters I can make!
Let me know if you have any ideas! I would love to hear them!

I love your tip on spray paint. Seems I always try to do it too quick and it runs.

Yes, I have worked very hard on mastering my patience when it comes to spray painting… it’s not always easy 😉

The paint scent is awful so I always hurry! Ha!
